the care for the care givers. A project, three groupwork opportunities of care

Some words are almost magical.
We think that the word “care” is one of them.
It is an ancient term, with a deep meaning: its original term was the latin Cura(m), which evolved in “care” and in “cure”. The latin original meanings are thought, care, but also anxiety and shortness of breath.
The entire universe of care is already condensed within its etymology.
The cure is a profession, with its rules, limitations, difficulties & rewards. The care can be a work of art: when methods & techniques meets creativity, they can generate a work of art.The care can be exercised by individuals with different roles & ranks very, as from professionals to parents (even if somehow parenting properly is a form of serious profession).
Regardless to the variety of roles & different ranks that culture designs & admits, any act of care always involves a speech. Every speech implies a significant structure, made of subject, verb, object, complements.
Anyone who has experienced the care in its various forms, aspects & positions, knows that the only subject of care is that ones who requires it, those who receive it.
Because of this grammar, we like to offer our professional experience to individuals that will participate to the group-work sessions. We always consider those individuals who choose tochallenge themselves  as true subjects of care, long before being patients, clients or users.
In our experience, to focus on individuals as the true subjects of care, means offering to participants a free & non-judgmental attention, a deep & profound respect for the dignity of the person. Individuals are, will always be, the only actors to be able to act a structural change in each own individual history.
We decided to open three pilot groups, through which we want to offer our care experience, to challenge & support the care of participants.
The three distinct groups aim to tackle issues related on the specific codes, roles, languages, meanings, desires & difficulties of possible participants.
The maximum number of participants in each group is ten people, with monthly meetings lasting two hours each.
The group shares few but defined basic rules: no interest for judgments on values & what is to be right or wrong to do; a guarantee of participation & a periodicity in the sessions; the commitment to report during the sessions any dynamics between components that might have been occurred outside of the group.
The approach used is related to the methodology of work in free group & the sharing among peers, which grants to participants the responsibility&  freedom in the contents & forms, with the foresight to dedicate a space to all.
We have decided to propose a double councuction in ordert to facilitate the sharing from a plurality of point of view, ideas, theoretical & methodological suggestions, starting from the constitutive structure of the each groups. The groups will be co-conducted by:
  • Daniela Parafioriti: psychologist, psychoanalyst, trainer, tutor and supervisor; she works since 1998 in the field of special education & in various areas of social intervention & health, particularly in psychiatry; since 2001 member of the Board of Psychologists of Piedmont Region, practicing as psychotherapist, supervisor, trainer and tutor both in Piedmont & in Lombardy
